Danièle Desnoyers/Le Carré des Lombes
A leading figure in Quebec contemporary dance, Danièle Desnoyers has made her mark with an art in which dance, the visual arts and music converge. Since 1989, she has created some fifteen works for her company, Le Carré des Lombes, touring Europe, Asia and North America. Her works have received the support of numerous partners, including Agora de la danse, Danse Danse, Festival TransAmériques and the Musée d’art contemporain in Montreal, National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Rencontres chorégraphiques internationales Seine-Saint-Denis, Festival Ardanthé and Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, Baryshnikov Arts Center in New York, Centre d’art Vooruit, Cultuurcentrum Brugge and TanzWerkstratt in Berlin. Recently she created two commissioned works : Blue Hour, part of the Montréal double bill for Staatstheater Mainz and The Song we Share, for Wendy Whelan and Ed Watson, part of Other Stories, a London Opera House and New York City Center co-production. Also a teacher, the choreographer has contributed to the development of new generations of artists, and her repertoire is taught in Canada’s foremost professional dance institutions. She joined the dance faculty at Université du Québec à Montréal in 2012.
